 With Journalist in Pwani

Consumer protection officers from the Fair Competition Commission (Tanzania) have provided education to residents of Chalinze District Council in Pwani Region on consumer rights and responsibilities. The initiative is part of preparations for the World Consumer Rights Day celebrations expected to take place on March 31, 2026.

The awareness campaign aims to equip citizens with knowledge on how to identify quality goods and services, as well as the steps they should take when they encounter fraud or violations of their rights as consumers. Residents were also encouraged to keep purchase receipts and report any illegal or unfair trade practices to the relevant authorities.

The officers explained that the purpose of the education program is to ensure that consumers have sufficient knowledge to protect themselves against counterfeit products, illegal pricing, and services that do not meet required standards. They also emphasized the importance of citizens actively safeguarding their own interests by understanding their rights and responsibilities when purchasing goods or using various services.

World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated annually around the world to raise awareness about consumer rights and to encourage businesses to uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability in providing goods and services. In Tanzania, the Government and various institutions use the occasion to educate the public in order to build a safer and more competitive market environment.
