Casablanca, Morocco – The 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has spurred economic growth in Morocco, with cities like Casablanca and Rabat experiencing a significant boost in tourism, business, and foreign investment.
According to the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism, around 500,000 fans from across Africa and beyond visited the country during the tournament, generating an estimated over USD 50 million in revenue over the three-week period.
International events like AFCON also stimulate growth for small and medium-sized enterprises. Hotel and restaurant owners reported substantial gains due to the influx of visitors. “Over the three weeks of the tournament, our revenues doubled,” said Ahmed Benali, owner of a luxury hotel in Casablanca.
The tournament has further driven major investments in national infrastructure, including new stadiums, public transport systems, and sports facilities, which will continue to benefit Moroccans even after the games conclude. Economists note that these developments increase the country’s GDP and enhance Morocco’s global image.
Even after the tournament ends, Morocco is expected to continue benefiting from upgraded infrastructure, increased tourism, and foreign investment. The event demonstrates how major sporting events can act as a catalyst for national economic growth, while residents and businesses continue to reap the rewards.
